WHY DON'T PEOPLE SAVE MORE AT BANKING AGENTS? EVIDENCE FROM THE LAKU PANDAI PROGRAM IN INDONESIA

In the last decade, the Indonesian Government has made important efforts to increase access to formal financial services, especially by encouraging branchless banking services for financial inclusion (Officeless Financial Services in the Framework of Inclusive Finance/Laku Pandai).� Branchless banking or banking services branchless allows banks to penetrate remote and rural areas through their representative agents. However, although the number of Laku Pandai (branchless banking) agents increased massively, the number of accounts opened per agent, and the amount of savings put into the account per agent did not increase drastically.
