The Urgency of Technocracy-Based Regional Development – Special Report, November 2024

2024 regional elections

What is your impression of the Regional Head Candidate debates over the past few days? Do you have an understanding or idealism of regional development based on rationality? Amidst the 'promise' of populism, have you been able to see the essence of scientific-based regional planning? If both of your answers are "Not yet", then this article is important for you to examine further as a provision in the voting booth on November 27, 2024.

The vision, mission, and programs of regional head candidates will determine the future of the region for the next few years. Not infrequently, political visions and missions are formulated with a focus on short-term populist appeal which causes the urgency to encourage regional development to be distorted by the focus on creating instant impacts to gain voter interest. In fact, it is important for regional leader candidates to be able to understand the real conditions of the region, especially through an analytical and data-based approach.

Through this article, the importance of regional development based on the Technocratic Draft of the RPJMD will be explored, namely the draft of a 5 (five) year planning document that is fully prepared using a technocratic approach before the election of the Regional Head and Deputy Regional Head. This article can be a reference for prospective regional head voters to determine regional heads who use technocratic planning documents in preparing their visions, missions and programs to be implemented.
