ECONOMIC ANALYSIS SERIES: TRADE AND INDUSTRY BRIEF, September 2020

September 20, 2020

The Indonesian manufacturing industry is starting to experience improved performance after previously being significantly impacted by the COVID-19 pandemic. This was marked by the release of the Purchasing Managers' Index (PMI) value in August 2020 which touched 50,8. This value shows that there has been an improvement in performance compared to the previous month. The figures for August are also very encouraging after previously since April 2020, Indonesia's PMI index had always been below 50. This September edition of Trade and Industry Brief wants to discuss the condition of Indonesia's manufacturing industry. Even though there has been improvement in terms of performance, with the reintroduction of the PSBB in DKI Jakarta and the government's still minimal focus on the recovery of the manufacturing industry, it is certain that the performance of this sector will not be optimal.
