ECONOMIC ANALYSIS SERIES: TRADE AND INDUSTRY BRIEF, February 2020

On January 15, the United States (US) and China agreed to the US-China 'Phase One' trade agreement which became effective on February 14 2020. This agreement marked a de-escalation of the trade war between the two countries, although it did not directly cancel the various additional tariffs that had previously occurred. enforced. The February 2020 edition of Trade and Industry Brief briefly explains developments in the US-China trade war. Data shows that the trade war that has been going on for almost two years is indeed ineffective in overcoming the US trade balance deficit with China.
