Seed assistance initiated by the Directorate General of Food Crops, Ministry of Agriculture, is a program providing free or subsidized seeds to farmers designed to increase production capacity as well as productivity and quality of plant products. Seed assistance was provided for several commodities with the main focus on rice, corn and soybeans. The initiation of rice seed assistance has been carried out since 2007, starting with Direct Assistance for Superior Seeds (BLBU). Several years later, this assistance was replaced with seed subsidies before finally the government returned to providing free seed assistance starting in 2017.
