Third Phase Survey of Investment Climate Monitoring in Indonesia


1. Introduction


LPEM FEUI, in collaboration with the Indonesian Coordinating Ministry for the Economy and the World Bank, has conducted a series of Investment Climate Monitoring surveys in 5 major Indonesian cities, namely Jakarta and its surroundings, Surabaya and its surroundings, Semarang and its surroundings, Medan and its surroundings, Makasar and its surroundings in the 2005-2006 period. The first phase was carried out in mid-2005, the second phase at the end of 2005 and the third phase in mid-2006. The aim of conducting the survey is to see changes related to the investment climate in Indonesia by paying attention to certain investment climate indicators in order to provide input to the government to see the effectiveness of the policies that have been implemented and improve them so that the investment climate in Indonesia is more conducive for the business community.


This third stage of the survey produced several interesting findings related to the investment climate. The indicators highlighted from these findings include (1) obstacles in business, (2) import clearance, (3) taxation (4) corruption, and (5) time required to start a business, (6) labor and (7) infrastructure.
