ONE YEAR EVALUATION OF THE CURRENT GOVERNMENT
The majority of experts, 30 out of 64 respondents (47%), believe that current economic conditions have worsened and are significantly worse than the previous quarter, while 24 experts believe that conditions have not changed. A small minority, 8 experts (12,5%), believe that economic conditions have improved, only 2 experts believe that they have worsened, and none believe that they have significantly improved. Overall, the average assessment of current economic conditions is -0,41 with a very high confidence level of 8,88. These findings indicate continued concern among experts about the state of the economy. These results align with a previous survey in March 2025, in which a majority of experts (55%) believed that economic conditions had worsened at that time.
About This Survey
This independent survey by the Institute for Economic and Social Research (LPEM FEB UI) aims to capture expert views on Indonesia's economic landscape and strengthen LPEM's commitment to supporting data-driven policy discussions and Indonesia's future economic development. The survey specifically explores expert perceptions of economic and social conditions, as well as policy developments, comparing them to previous periods and assessing expectations for the future.
The survey was conducted online from October 6–16, 2025. This is the second semester survey of economists for 2025, following the first semester survey conducted in March 2025.
The survey sample consisted of 64 economists with diverse backgrounds, including academics, research institutions, think tanks, the private sector, and multinational organizations and institutions. The experts came from various regions in Indonesia, including Jakarta, West Java, Yogyakarta, Central Java, Aceh, Banten, South Kalimantan, West Sumatra, and Lampung, as well as from abroad, including Australia, the Netherlands, the United States, and the United Kingdom.
The survey sample included experts with a minimum qualification of a doctorate for those from academia or universities, and a minimum of a master's degree for those working in non-governmental organizations (e.g., the private sector, think tanks). Experts affiliated with or working in government institutions were excluded from the survey to avoid potential bias related to official policy positions.
