Economic Analysis Series: Trade and Industry Brief, June 2023

In December 2022, the European Union (EU) agreed to implement the European Union Deforestation Regulation (EUDR). Normatively, this policy is a form of the EU's commitment to fighting deforestation in the world, as one of the implementations of "EU communication on stepping up EU action to protect and restore the world's forests", which was launched in 2019. Several specific indicators are The most recent implementation of the EUDR was rolled out in May 2023. In practice, this policy can be an obstacle to the export of various commodities from developing countries to the EU, including commodities that are the mainstay of Indonesian exports.
