Training Theme

Economics, Social and Public Policy

As one of the oldest economic and social research institutions in Indonesia, LPEM FEB UI also organizes various training courses in the fields of economics, social and public policy. Training in the field of economics includes Macroeconomics, Microeconomics for Industrial Organizations and Business Competition, Statistics and Econometrics. This training is useful for government and private sector actors in understanding the economic phenomena that occur on the basis of economic theories and concepts. Training in the social field includes Social Analysis Techniques, Stakeholder Mapping, Communication Techniques, and Presentation Techniques. All of this will help participants develop skills in preparing persuasive presentations, conveying opinions and solutions in preparing participant resolutions for social problems. Every economic and social challenge ultimately needs to be responded to in the form of public policy. In this context, Public Policy Analysis Training is offered by LPEM FEB UI for the government and other stakeholders so they can develop participatory evidence-based policies. With this approach, policy objectives and instruments are developed through interaction between public authorities and related stakeholders.

Development Planning

This training theme is designed to strengthen the capacity of planners, economists and other policy makers involved in formulating national and regional development plans. The training is focused on ensuring that participants have a clear understanding of the approach, process, various stakeholders involved, important stages and steps in the development planning process. This training is very useful for planners in particular and the government in general, both central and regional levels, to be able to synchronize development planning at the national and regional levels. Since 2003 LPEM FEB UI has been a partner of Bappenas in implementing Functional Planning Position (JFP) training. Currently LPEM FEB UI is also assisting Bappenas in organizing Technical Guidance (Bimtek) for preparation for the JFP competency test. Apart from that, LPEM FEB UI also holds Substantive Training on Regional Development Planning and RPJMD, and other short training includes Preparation of Planning Documents, Planning and Budgeting, Participatory Planning, and Monitoring and Evaluation.

State and Regional Finance

Effective management of state and regional finances is a fundamental element for the public sector in general and government organizations in particular. The training material is a combination of academic research and case examples from practitioners, where participants learn how governments and public sector organizations plan and manage public spending, understand how tax policies are designed and the effects of tax policies, alternative public sector strategies to increase revenue, how performance finances are reported to the public, and how fiscal balance is achieved. Various training topics in this field include Regional Financial Management, Planning and Budgeting, Cost Standard Analysis, Performance Based Budgeting, PBB and BPHTB, Regional Property Management, Regional Financial Administration and Accounting. Apart from that, LPEM FEB UI can also organize various short training courses related to this field according to partners' needs and requests.

Methods of Scientific Analysis and Writing

Practitioners and academics who work in dynamic and evolving fields of collaboration, multi-professional, or multi-agency need insight into the research process and critical analysis skills. Apart from that, one of the most important aspects of the scientific process is the process of analyzing and reporting results, both in the form of scientific articles to disseminate findings to the wider scientific community, and in the form of policy papers and policy briefs for more specific stakeholders and policy makers. Communicating the results of semi-scientific analysis and scientific research is very important as a contribution to the development of knowledge as well as providing a basis for further research and policy making in the future.
