Inflation Analysis for April 2016

Mei 3, 2016

BPS recorded deflation (general) of 0,45% (mtm) or 3,6% (yoy) in April 2016. Deflation in April was caused by a decrease in food prices due to the harvest season and a decrease in the price of fuel oil (BBM) types premium from IDR 6.950 per liter to IDR 6.450 per liter and diesel from IDR 5.650 per liter to IDR 5.150 per liter. Of the six main commodities that form inflation, five of them experienced price declines, namely red chilies, rice, fresh fish, chicken meat and chicken eggs. On the other hand, only shallots experienced an increase in price. With the end of the harvest season and approaching the month of Ramadan 2016, LPEM-FEB UI estimates that there will be low inflation in May 2016.
